Week 50
Day 1
(Originally posted Sunday, December 7, 2014)

Overview Jeremiah 50:1-46 - "Epic Fall, Part 1". Babylon has been the big, bad bully for most of the book of Jeremiah, which we have been reading this year. Well, this week and next we will see their comeuppance foretold, and it's not going to be pretty.

Those with violins, it's time to tune up.
Day 2
(Originally posted Monday, December 8, 2014)

Jeremiah 50:1, 2, 3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-10. "Babylon The Bubble". As with all things, the end of Babylon begins with Yahweh saying so. And with the boisterous Babylon, their end would be neither quiet nor unnoticed. Yahweh desired that the whole world see and know what would become of Babylon. And her false gods who cannot deliver.
Finally, Yahweh's people, whom He often characterized as wandering sheep, can put their sheeplikeness to good use in fleeing Babylon before the arrows from the northern alliance fall.
Run away, little sheep. Run away.
Day 3
(Originally posted Tuesday, December 9, 2014)

Jeremiah 50:11-16, 17-20 - "Scrubs". Babylon had been showing herself a pretty good time conquering all of her neighbors. These advances were useful to Yahweh in the point-making scrubbing of His people, the way we scrub our caked-on dishes.
But now the party was over, and Babylon would be the dish to be scrubbed, while a freshly cleansed remnant of Israel would finally get a rest.
Day 4
(Originally posted Wednesday, December 10, 2014)

Jeremiah 50:21-27, 28, 29-32. "How Like Icarus". Our portions today should leave no doubt, if there was any, that Yahweh HATES sin. Nations who divorce themselves from Him by carrying on proudly in their sin, with no signs of turning to Him, no acknowledgement of Him at all, even when He graciously allows them to prosper, will be justly dealt with, and poetically. Babylon's plight in today's passages is not unlike foolish Icarus, except that He who melts them rages. Let us learn, and let us pray.

Jeremiah 50:33-38, 39-40. "Swords, Swords, Everywhere Swords". As we read our passages today, let's notice that Yahweh doesn't mess around or do things by half. He defends His people with as much passion--yet also with objectivity--as He does in bringing their oppressors to dust.
As followers of Jesus, we should take special note of this in our respective ministries. The Sword He blesses us with is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God--the Bible. It behooves us to learn our weapon and practice with it daily.
If we are where He wants us to be, and we are doing what He wants us to be doing, make no mistake, there will be obstacles, BUT He Himself will bring about our respective victories. He Himself will bring about our victories.

He Himself will bring about our victory.

******* CAUTION: MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. *******

Jeremiah 50:41-43, 44-46. "Puny Babylon". As we read the balance of our chapter this week, we find Yahweh's pronouncement of a kind of poetry in the justice He will dispense to Babylon in the alliance of nations that will rise up against her.

As she falls, the world will gasp. It happened before; it will happen again. Those who hear, hear.

Day 7
(Originally posted Saturday, December 13, 2014)

Review Jeremiah 50:1-46 and REST as we
Mark this well: apart from Yahweh, things go from bad to worse,
But with Yahweh, He makes things better than the reverse.
