Week 12 |
Day 1 | | (Originally posted Sunday, March 16, 2014)
Overview Jeremiah 12:1-17 - "Wicked Success?". As we explore Jeremiah 12 this week, let us go with the prophet in wonder over how being bad gets rewarded in this life; and let us especially listen to Yahweh's correction of that thought. He gives rope. |
Day 2 | | (Originally posted Monday, March 17, 2014)
Jeremiah 12:1-4 - "But How Do You Feel, Really". As we read today's portion, let's notice how frank the prophet Jeremiah is in bringing his question to Yahweh, the boldness that he employs in bringing his complaint to the Almighty. What we read today is a muscular prayer, a faith-filled petition to our Heavenly Father. Let us pray to Him likewise. |
Day 3 | | (Originally posted Tuesday, March 18, 2014)
Jeremiah 12:5-6 - "You Ain't Seen Nuthin' Yet". Colloquialisms. Sometimes we get them, sometimes we don't. Add to that you're reading a text translated from a very different language and the meaning can be obscured further. As we read today's verses, know that Yahweh is answering Jeremiah's prayer which we read yesterday, and He is beginning with this, essentially saying, "You ain't seen nuthin' yet," or even, "You don't know the half of it," meaning things are actually going to get worse than they are.
Thankfully, tomorrow is only a day away. |
Day 4 | | (Originally posted Wednesday, March 19, 2014)
Jeremiah 12:7-9 - "When Yahweh Cleans His House" (Part 1 of 2). Take a deep breath before and after reading today's verses. In our popular Christian culture, we are not accustomed to strong words like these from our God, but here they are. And they are spoken in answer to Jeremiah's prayer. We can feel His utter frustration in His disobedient people. This is why grace is amazing.
It's best to just do what He says. |
Day 5 | | (Originally posted Thursday, March 20, 2014)
Jeremiah 12:10-13 - "When Yahweh Cleans His House" (Part 2 of 2). As we read the balance of Yahweh's response to His prophet today, let us notice that He is not unmindful that His people's error has proceeded from the top down. Likewise, in His Church today, He holds accountable the leadership especially for missteps that are taken corporately, e.g. a church taking out millions of dollars in loans to pay for buildings, then declaring bankruptcy, then proceeding to do it all again years later. This sort of thing is stifling to the work Jesus commissioned us to do. Let's pray for His help to keep us on the right track. |

Jeremiah 12:14-17 - "Sometimes He DOES Look Like A Gardener". Today we read the results of the exchange of ideas that has been going on this week between Jeremiah the prophet and Yahweh our God. As you read today, realize God's first project involving people was a garden. Also, know that when you read the word "uproot", a picture of weedpulling is appropriate. Mary Magdalene once mistook Jesus the risen Christ for a gardener. No doubt it was a family resemblance. |
Day 7 | | (Originally posted Saturday, March 22, 2014)
Review Jeremiah 12:1-17 and REST in the truth that Yahweh does answer prayer and that He will make everything alright. |
