Week 7
Day 1
(Originally posted Sunday, February 9, 2014)

Overview Jeremiah 7:1-34 - "A New Kind Of Church Greeter". As you read through Jeremiah 7 this week, keep in mind that everything Jeremiah is saying to the people is happening as they are going in to the Temple to worship, which is usually good behavior, except that for them it is only a break from their week filled with bad behavior. Jeremiah will be reminding us not everything is awesome. Gird yourself.
P.S. "Emmet" is Hebrew for "truth". Boom.
Day 2
(Originally posted Monday, February 10, 2014)

Jeremiah 7:1-11 - "I Saw A Man Up On A Box". As you read today's portion, see Jeremiah as that guy in your downtown standing on a box preaching as loud as he can to whomever will listen. See him not in your downtown, but in the parking lot of the biggest church you can recall. Now you have the picture. Now hear the words.
Day 3
(Originally posted Tuesday, February 11, 2014)

Jeremiah 7:12-15 - "Lyin' Near Where I Slayed My Hero, Yeah". As you read today's three short but sobering verses, notice how our God Yahweh is willing to take drastic measures to resolve drastic situations. And when He does a thing, it is DONE. A singer in the wringer wrote and sang,
"Abba Father You must wonder why
More times than Peter I have denied
Three nails and a cross to prove
I owe my life eternally to you!"
Indeed, He will iron it all out. May we pray.
Day 4
(Originally posted Wednesday, February 12, 2014)

(1/2) Jeremiah 7:16-19, 20. "Know When To Fold 'Em, Know When To Run". As you sit at a table pondering felt needs after reading through today's passage, ponder sitting at a felt table and play a hand of cards. Dealer deals you the King of Hearts: God knows who is saved, who can still BE saved, and who will NEVER, no matter what, ever will be saved. Follow His lead in your prayer life. Next card Dealer deals, the queen of clubs: She represents anything, especially anything involving the whole family, that gets put in front of Yahweh God. He will let her beat you senseless IF YOU HAVE LET HER IN! Dealer deals third card: the jack of hearts, because after she's done with you, your heart will be jacked with. Dealer deals fourth card, the ten of spades: a reminder. you remember the ten plagues? Yahweh is the same Yahweh that unleashed them on Egypt in Exodus. Why provoke HIM?! ARE YOU NUTS?!

(2/2) Dealer deals fifth card, the Ace Of Three Diamonds. The same Yahweh offers Himself, Jesus Christ, Who can save from fire, here and now.

Free advice that's priceless: Never bet against Yahweh God; you'll be royally flushed.
Day 5
(Originally posted Thursday, February 13, 2014)

Jeremiah 7:21-26, 27-28, 29. "We Lost The Plot, But The Show Must Go On". What we read in today's readings are words of disappointment from God to His people, because He told them what to do, but they decided they wanted to worship in their own way. They have their rituals, and they're very religious, but still not doing what their God Yahweh prescribed.
It's like an unfunny sitcom: everyone plays along and the ratings will be high, but there's a price that's paid later and it's far more than anyone is thinking.
The wisest man in the world sought to please his wives; the cost ultimately was the kingdom.

Now look around.

Jeremiah 7:30-34 - "As If Millions Of Voices Cried Out...". Today's read is especially hard because we are even more guilty than the people of God in the passage. We are more guilty because we think if we change the terminology that makes the practice acceptable. Yahweh God knows their names.

Review Jeremiah 7:1-34 and REST in the clarity that comes when Yahweh God demonstrates His willingness to love until it hurts... and beyond.
