Week 42 |
Day 1 | | (Originally posted Sunday, October 12, 2014)
Overview Jeremiah 42:1-22 - "Asking For Directions". Our reading this week may be difficult for us guys because it chronicles the leaders of Yahweh's remaining people asking for directions! "Which way do we go?". But let's see how we would respond when we learn the real difficulty won't be receiving the directions, it'll be following them once we have them. |

Jeremiah 42:1-3 - "A Brave Move". As we read today, let's realize even as we Christians pray directly to God our Father through Jesus Christ His Son and our Master and Big Brother, and all by the power of Their Holy Spirit, that we can do so because of what Jesus did for us down here, giving us a kind of all-access pass to the Father, which Yahweh's people DID NOT have at that time. And this is where Jeremiah and all of Yahweh's prophets came in. The leaders of the small remaining remnant had to swallow whatever pride they had left and admit their desperate need for Yahweh their True God's guidance.
Now let us pray. |

Jeremiah 42:4-6 - "Don't Ever Be Afraid Of Starting Over". We learn today in our verses that the leaders of the small remnant of Yahweh's people are saying they want to hear EVERYTHING Yahweh has to tell them through Jeremiah--the good, the bad, and the ugly. They now seem to believe there actually is some direct relationship between their obedience to Him and their wellbeing. And we can't fix something if we don't know what's wrong. Listen closely, now. |

Jeremiah 42:7-12 - "God Wants To Bless You". While reading today, let's realize some things: 1.) God works on His timetable, NOT ours, 2.) In Yahweh's timetable there are times to move and times to stand still, 3.) The scariest thing you can imagine, Yahweh is scarier still, 4.) Perhaps the most difficult saying, but one that will rescue people: God's love IS unconditional, but tragically, His compassion IS NOT unconditional; this is in keeping with His justice and His righteousness.
If we'll do what He says, He'll do what He says. |

Jeremiah 42:13-17 - "Don't Get eGypped!". Today's reading is a dark mirror to our reading yesterday. God does indeed want to bless those who belong to Him, but if they will not do what He says and persevere, then all that remains is to perish in a place they never should have been. Oh, but everything to them seemed easier in Egypt, more peaceful, convenient, modern... pragmatic. Like all traps, it sounds real good at first, and then unpleasantness follows. They, like us, should walk by faith and not by sight, that they may live. Remember Yahweh sees all the way to the end of the road. Let's follow His directives. (See also Revelation 13:16-18) |
Day 6 | | (Originally posted Friday, October 17, 2014)
Jeremiah 42:18-23 - "Just To Reiterate..." or "Because Each Reminder Makes Untenable Desired Ambivalence". As we finish reading our chapter this week, let's remember that Yahweh prefers to bless those who belong to Him. And if we who belong to Him choose to go a different direction than His explicit directive, we cannot claim ignorance when it comes time to face the consequences for our disobedience. Always remember He's telling us what to do FOR OUR OWN GOOD, not because He's some big, cosmic Meanie. |

Review Jeremiah 42:1-22 and REST in the certainty thatIt's a dangerous thing to ask for then not follow Yahweh's instruction, Yet fools still go their own way and bring on their own destruction. |
