"You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that."

" 'It's a tooma!'
Unfortunately, my friends it is a tumor and it is bad. After enduring tremendous pain in my lower back and legs last week, getting admitted to the hospital and undergoing multiple tests, the docs have determined that I have stage IV melanoma that has metastasized throughout my chest, lower abdomen and head. Doc has given me 3-6 months and I moved to hospice today. My morale is good because I know that God has already performed the greatest of all miracles in my life- the forgiveness of my sins and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. My prayer is that I can remain pain free and functional as long as possible and that everyday can be a fruitful ministry opportunity.
We are developing a website that will post more detail that I will link to as I am discovering that not all my friends are on Facebook.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you."

In honor of my brother Kirk's homegoing:

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do [men] light a lamp, and put it under the peck-measure, but on the lampstand; and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

"I still stand by the message of ["I Kissed Dating Goodbye"] that a premature, short-term romantic attachments can be a big distraction from serving God--especially for teenagers. But in the years since I've also seen that a legalistic application of these ideas can be unhelpful, too. One of my main concerns in my church or any other church is that there be no disunity among Christians over issues of dating and courtship. We need to learn to hold our own convictions on this matter with charity. Most importantly we need to make sure that our convictions are shaped by scripture--not culture, church culture or my books."
