Week 12 |
|
DAY 1: Sunday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: 1 minute, 18.03 seconds
TIP 67: Plug both ears while reciting and notice the difference. |
Overview Ecclesiastes 8:1-17
"In Stereo"
When we hear things in stereo, there is a depth that we can perceive that wasn't there when we heard it in just the left ear and just in the right ear. That stereo effect is greater than the sum of the two hearings. This week, as we continue through Solomon's thought processes, we come across concepts that will sound very much like what we have read in previous chapters in previous weeks. Let's notice his inclusion of God this week, and just an overall tone change that allows a light in that was previously left out.

DAY 2: Monday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: 4 minutes, 0.07 seconds
TIP 68: After reciting each book and its number, say, "Thank You, Jesus." |
Ecclesiastes 8:1, 2-4
"Because Jesus Is The King Of Kings." See also 1 Chronicles 29:23-25. See also Matthew 6:28-30.
"/Leh Oh-LAHM (C)Hahs-DOH/". We do well to learn this phrase and repeat it for the rest of our lives. We know it in English as "His love endures forever." This is a founda- tional truth to our faith. God's love indeed endures forever. It is this truth that guides us as we follow Him, even as we follow lead- ers He allows to be our leaders. And so, we will follow Him in our obed- ience to our leadership, and should our obedience to Him become dis- obedience to leaders, we will do so in a CIVIL manner.
Because His love endures forever, so also our love as Jesus followers will endure forever. Jesus is King.
In fact, Jesus is King OF KINGS. Who will say to Him, "What are You doing?"

DAY 3: Tuesday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: 1 minute, 25.28 seconds
TIP 69: After Malachi, 4, quote the last 27 books, the New Testament, starting from Revelation, 22, back to Matthew, 28. If possible, see the books as you recite them in the familiar columnar configuration. |
Ecclesiastes 8:5-9
"Because There's More To Jesus Than Meets The Eye."
In our portion today, we read what Solomon can see under the sun, and compare that with what we can see in Jesus the Son of God. We read Ecclesiastes 8:5. Then we can read John 2:4-5. We read Ecclesiastes 8:6. Then we can read Matthew 3:13-17. We read Ecclesiastes 8:7. Then we can read Luke 22:31-34. We read Ecclesiastes 8:8. Then we can read John 20:19-23. And we read Ecclesiastes 8:9. Then we can read Matthew 23:1-4.
Jesus is a real-life transformer.
Jesus is a real life-transformer.
"Fifty years from now, when you're looking back at your life, don't you wanna be able to say you had the guts..."
...to follow Jesus?

DAY 4: Wednesday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: About 1/2 mile through rush hour traffic.
TIP 70: Try reciting today on a sub- conscious level, with minimal voicing of books and their numbers. |
Ecclesiastes 8:10-13
"Because Jesus Died For Us That Day."
We read today of Solomon observing the burial of criminals and jerks, lamenting the fact that their crimes went without punishment. At this point, we should all re- member that we all are criminals and jerks, but Jesus died for us anyway. (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23)
This is the grace of God, that he offers us a trade of our exist- ence, which leads to hell, for the real life that only Jesus brings.
And it will be well for us.

DAY 5: Thursday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: 1 minute, 38.14 seconds
TIP 71: Try to imagine something else you'd rather be doing other than this as you recite. Notice the hindrance. |
Ecclesiastes 8:14-15
"Because Jesus Knows We Don't Live By Food, Drink And Chillaxation Alone."
There is a high price to pay for living life only for the right now. The guaranteed way to be neglected forever is to neglect forever OURSELVES. Because Solomon so allowed his eyes to determine what was hap- pening in his world under the sun, he often missed the spirit- ual component: the futility he saw in verse 14 was the result of a corrupt world being purposely mismanaged by Satan, who is God's adversary, and truly a friend of NO ONE. This emptiness still echoes to- day: good is bad, bad is good, "boy scouts" are "corny" or "un- cool" and therefore undesirable, meanwhile "bad boys" are not called scoundrels or villains, no, they are "anti-heroes". In the pop culture, Jesus wasn't "cool" until He was portrayed with long, flowing, NON-JEWISH hair! Shame on us. SHAME! But a new day approaches. The truth is this uncool, boy scout Jesus, who was and is al- ways prepared, has prepared a way for us OVER THE SUN. And forget about the pricetag, because He paid it all. Once we understand what that means, we will never want to forget about Him again.
Just know that God's true calling will NEVER go against what He has already said in the Bible. For example, someone who is conflict- ed about whether or not to take something(s) that isn't theirs. No need to pray about that, be- cause God said, "Don't steal." (Exodus 20:15). We who belong to Him hear what He is saying in our soul; He is TRULY pitch perfect.

DAY 6: Friday |
WARM-UP:
Recitation of 66 books with numbers of chapters or psalms in each book.
TIME: 5 minutes, 18.79 seconds
TIP 72: Write them down, like this: |
Ecclesiastes 8:16-17
"Because, Because, Because, Be- cause, Because... Because Of The Wonderful Things He Does."
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz simply did not live up to his name. He should have been named the Shady Charlatan of Oz. He was a fake and a fraud and powerless to give the four sojourners the intellectual, emotional, psychological or situa- tional fulfillment they each de- sired. The gifts he did give were merely symbols that encouraged them to tap into what they already had inside. How different he is from the Truly All-Powerful Yahweh! God is neith- er fake nor fraudulent, and His power is truly limitless; unfath- omable. This expansive gulf between what we can know and what God has done from eternity to eternity is the gap to which Solomon resigns him- self and us as we come to the close of our chapter this week.
In a nutshell, if the merry old land of Oz could stand for all of God's creation, then Solomon un- derstood that all we can compre- hend of it amounts to a single yellow brick.
