2009 Initiative - "365 Holy Days" (see Roman 14:5): The next two weeks we will focus on remembering, as Memorial Day is a day set aside in the United States for remembering those that have given their lives in military service defending our great Representative Republic. This week we will look at memorizing God's Word, as it helps us remember to always do the right thing.

Warm up: A Game Of Memory
Exercise: "Memory Binding"
Lesson: Memory All Day
- A Heritage Of Memorizing (Second Timothy 3:14, 15; Second Timothy 1:5)
Second Timothy 3:14, 15 - You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned [them]; and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (italics added)
Second Timothy 1:5 - For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that [it is] in you as well. (italics added)- Some Dividends Of Memorizing (Second Timothy 3:16, 17; Psalm 119:97-104)
Second Timothy 3:16, 17 - All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Psalm 119:97-104 (Click here for a sample tune with the words!)O how I love Your Law!
It is my meditation all the day.
Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies,
For they are ever mine.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation
I understand more than the aged,
Because I have observed Your precepts.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your Word.
I have not turned aside from your ordinances,
For You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste!
[Yes, sweeter] than honey to my mouth!
From Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.- The Practice Of Memorizing (Deuteronomy 11:18-21; Proverbs 7:1-3)
Deuteronomy 11:18-21 - "You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. And you shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens [remain] above the earth.
Proverbs 7:1-3My son, keep my words,
And treasure my commandments within you.
Keep my commandments and live,
And my teaching as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.One Method Of Bible Memorization In 8 Steps
1.) Pray over memorization timeExample verse to memorize: Revelation 3:20 - 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.
2.) Read the verse silently; hear a voice saying the words
3.) Read the verse aloud; listen to yourself as you read
4.) Write the verse; read your writing, silently then aloud
5.) Write the verse mark-to-mark; read your writing, silently then aloud
6.) Bind the verse to your fingers, say each part of the verse aloud, associating it to each finger.
7.) Recite the verse; say the book, chapter and verse, say the verse, then repeat the book, chapter and verse; check your recitation against the original text!
8.) Pray for the next 24 hours, reciting the verse and giving thanks at least once each hour. Memory All Day!!Life application: Memorizing God's Word is ALL GOOD!!! Memorizing helps us to maintain focus on our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus by the power of Their Holy Spirit. Memorizing helps us to walk through dark times with a light disposition; it helps us to keep our feet on the straight and narrow path; it helps us to shine God's Light into this dark world we live in for a time.
